With summer quickly approaching, I’d love to share some of my favorite summer spots and locations to experience! Newport Beach has so much to offer, it’s difficult to decide where to spend most of your time. Whether you’re looking to grab a bite or just find a space to hang-out, I have the all-time favorite locations lined up for you.
1. Sunset Ridge Park
This is a park that doesn’t get nearly as much use or attraction as it deserves. A vast amount of people have been to Inspiration Point right above Big Corona, but not too many have visited (or even heard of) Sunset Ridge Park. It is situated on the Northwest corner of PCH and Superior Avenue, where it encompasses numerous amenities. Some of these amenities include a soccer field, a baseball field, a picnic area, a memorial butterfly garden, and the best part – a breathtaking overlook area with a shaded structure. You really need to pay a visit in order to understand just how beautiful this place is.
2. Ho Sum Bistro
This is a must, especially if you’re down on the Balboa Peninsula. After a devastating fire destroyed the restaurant in June 2016, Ho Sum Bistro has finally returned since mid-January of this year. Not only are the staple items such as the Chicken Salad still here, but the majority of the original staff have returned as well. Some local knowledge: Come by during happy hour Monday-Friday 3-6 p.m. so you can grub on some signature Ho Sum dumplings, coconut shrimp, or the owner’s favorite Crispy Crab Bellies for $4.95 to $5.95. It’s a great way to start off your evening!
3. The Wedge
You probably could’ve guessed this one, but everyone has to visit The Wedge (even if you aren’t a fan of the beach). Summertime in Newport Beach nearly demands attendance by the ocean, so why not get some entertainment while you’re enjoying one of the best beaches in the world. The Wedge is a favorite spot for extreme water sports such as surfing or bodysurfing, but it’s also a great place to go if you want to see what Newport Beach culture is all about in general. As you make your drive all the way down Balboa Blvd, you are surrounded by homes, shops, and restaurants that all speak to Newport’s environment. Then, once you arrive at Wedge (the end of the street), you walk a small distance to arrive at the sand, where you’ll likely see some bodysurfers hanging out on the jetty. Even if you aren’t into water sports or the beach in general, you’re guaranteed to get something positive out of visiting The Wedge.
